Your first appointment is a comprehensive ADHD assessment with your GP. Your GP will discuss your current symptoms, childhood and developmental history, and how these symptoms affect your work or study, relationships, organisation, daily functioning and sleep.

The assessment will also consider other conditions that may cause similar symptoms or commonly occur alongside ADHD, including anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, substance use and relevant medical conditions.

Your blood pressure, pulse, weight and other relevant observations will be assessed. Pathology tests or an ECG may be arranged if clinically indicated.

2. Mental Health Treatment Plan & Psychology Referral - where appropriate

Where clinically appropriate and Medicare eligibility requirements are met, your GP can prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan and refer you to our onsite psychologist, Dr Jonathan Munro.

Psychological assessment may include validated ADHD rating scales, behavioural questionnaires and assessment of attention, executive functioning and other psychological conditions.

Dr Munro consults onsite at Renaissance Medical Centre on Thursdays, allowing your GP and psychologist to work collaboratively with your consent.

Psychology consultation fees are charged separately. Medicare rebates may be available for eligible psychology consultations under a Mental Health Treatment Plan.

3. Final ADHD Assessment, Diagnosis & Treatment Planning

After the assessment process and any relevant investigations or psychological assessment have been completed, you return to your GP. Your GP reviews the available clinical history, questionnaires, collateral information, previous records, psychological assessment and investigation results before making the final clinical assessment.

The consultation billed will depend on the actual time and complexity of your appointment. If ADHD is confirmed, your GP will discuss your diagnosis and individual treatment options.

4. Medication Initiation & Titration

If medication is appropriate, your GP will discuss available treatment options, expected benefits, possible side effects and monitoring requirements. Medication is usually started at an appropriate initial dose and reviewed during the titration period.

Your GP will monitor ADHD symptoms, functional improvement, medication effectiveness, blood pressure and heart rate, sleep, appetite, weight, mood and possible side effects. Medication adjustments are made according to your individual response.

5. Ongoing ADHD Management

Once your treatment is stable, your GP can continue your ADHD care, including regular reviews, prescription management and monitoring. We also encourage patients to establish ongoing general medical care with Renaissance Medical Centre so that ADHD management can be integrated with mental health, sleep, cardiovascular health, preventive care and other health needs.

Already diagnosed with ADHD?

$128.35

$341.65

If you already have an ADHD diagnosis and would like to transfer your care to us, please book an ADHD Transfer-of-Care Assessment rather than a standard GP consultation. This allows sufficient time for your GP to carefully review your diagnosis and treatment history.

Please bring your previous ADHD assessment report, psychiatrist, paediatrician or psychologist correspondence, medication history and any other relevant documentation.

Your GP will review your diagnosis, previous treatment, current medication, medical and mental-health history and relevant prescribing requirements.

2. Additional Assessment - if required

Not everyone transferring care will require another psychological assessment. However, your GP may recommend additional assessment if previous documentation is unavailable or insufficient, the diagnosis requires clarification, or there are significant co-existing psychological conditions.

Where appropriate, this can be arranged with our onsite psychologist, Dr Jonathan Munro.

3. Ongoing Management & Prescriptions

Once your GP is satisfied with the diagnosis and prescribing requirements have been met, ongoing ADHD management can include prescriptions, medication monitoring, dose adjustments and regular reviews.

Important: Medicare rebates are available to eligible Medicare cardholders and depend on the service provided and applicable MBS requirements. Actual out-of-pocket costs may differ if Medicare Safety Net benefits apply. A Mental Health Treatment Plan and psychology referral are offered only where clinically appropriate and eligibility requirements are met.
